Dunwoody is a serene suburban city located to the north of Atlanta. Incorporated as a city in 2008 with roots stretching back to the 1830s, the city has numerous long-established neighborhoods with a strong sense of community. Dunwoody is readily accessible from Atlanta via several major highways and Dunwoody MARTA station. The city offers an inviting social atmosphere with local sports clubs and several commercial areas. Residents also enjoy access to neighborhood parks as well as beautiful scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities along the Chattahoochee River. The community features many single-family homes built in the latter decades of the 20th century in the distinctive Williamsburg Colonial style. There are also contemporary townhouse developments and high-rise condominium complexes.

Dunwoody is comprised of a variety of distinctive neighborhoods with their own characteristics. Dunwoody Village is the city’s historic core and home to many businesses. The walkable Georgetown neighborhood near I-285 also has its own dedicated commercial area. Surrounding Perimeter Mall at Dunwoody’s border with Sandy Springs, Perimeter Center is a bustling business district with many offices, shops, and residential high-rises. The mostly residential neighborhoods of Tilly Mill and Winters Chapel have a relaxed suburban atmosphere with several scenic parks and walking trails.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Perimeter Mall is Georgia’s second-largest shopping mall. With an attractive open-air layout and shops and restaurants connected by gardens and walking paths, this premier retail destination features more than 150 businesses anchored by Dillard’s, Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Von Maur department stores. Other tenants include brands such as Anthropologie, Francesca, Forever 21, H&M, J.Jill, Loft, Sephora, and Zara. Many more restaurants and retailers can be found in the edge city of Perimeter Center, which surrounds Perimeter Mall. Vienna-style Café Intermezzo offers a huge selection of hot drinks as well as delicious bistro dishes and pastries. Other highlights include bakeshop, grocer, and wine bar Alon’s Bakery & Market and laid-back breakfast and brunch spot Another Broken Egg Café. The Georgetown neighborhood’s commercial area features a Kroger supermarket and a variety of other businesses. E 48th Street Market is an Italian deli and grocery store with tasty ready-to-eat sandwiches as well as a wide selection of bread, cheeses, meats, olive oils, and imported items. Bay Leaf is a nearby favorite serving flavorful and authentic Indian cuisine. Dunwoody Village features many independent local businesses. Here, you can enjoy drinks and gastropub fare at the family-friendly Dunwoody Tavern, freshly-made sweet treats at Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, and mouthwatering comfort classics at Village Burger.

Things to Do

There is lots to see and discover in the beautiful scenery surrounding Dunwoody’s neighborhoods. Dunwoody Nature Center has a park with wetlands, a woodland playground, and hiking trails. The sprawling Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area contains thousands of acres along a 48-mile stretch of the Chattahoochee River. From hiking along the riverbank woodland to fishing and rafting in the water, there’s plenty to enjoy here. Dunwoody Country Club boasts one of the Southeast’s most memorable golf courses. Designed in the 1960s by William Byrd, the golf course features dramatic changes in elevation and breathtaking views. Other amenities at Dunwoody Country Club include 14 lighted tennis courts, a 25-meter pool with diving boards, full-service dining, and a variety of social activities and events for both children and adults. Northside Hospital is a leading medical facility located a short distance south of Dunwoody.
