With an artsy bohemian vibe, Decatur has produced many influential entertainment figures, including R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, rapper Future, and actor and comedian Chris Tucker. This cozy Zagat-rated hotspot has a great selection of bistro dishes and wines. Dancing Goats Coffee is a trendy spot to get your caffeine fix, serving signature espresso blends from Batdorf & Bronson in an industrial-chic setting. The Marlay House is a traditional Irish pub with classic pub grub and a wide choice of beers. Twain’s Brewpub & Billiards has won rave reviews for their elevated gastropub eats. Eddie’s Attic is a great place to discover the next big thing in music. Eddie’s regularly hosts some of the hottest up-and-coming acts as well as occasional special performances from big names who got their start here. Eddie’s has an open mic night every Monday as well as their semi-annual Open Mic Shootout contest. Previous winners include John Mayer, Tyler Childers, and Jennifer Nettles of Billboard chart-topping duo Sugarland. In August, Decatur BBQ Blues & Bluegrass Festival combines live music with mouthwatering smoked meats and tasty vegetarian options. This family-friendly festival also has a special kids zone with many fun activities. There’s also the free Concerts on the Square series held each Saturday evening from May to September. Other popular annual events include the Decatur Arts Festival, Decatur Beach Party, and Oakhurst Porchfest. A unique local attraction is the Decatur Ghost Tour, which starts at the historic downtown square and ends with a twilight visit to Decatur Cemetery—the oldest burial ground in the Atlanta area. Along the way, knowledgeable guides tell chilling stories from Decatur’s past.
